Strengthening Energy Partnerships: Leila Benali Welcomes a High-Level French Delegation.

The Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, met on Thursday in Rabat with a high-level delegation from the French region of Normandy, led by its president, Hervé Morin. This meeting is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen Moroccan-French cooperation in strategic areas related to energy and innovation.

Composed of institutional officials, academics, and representatives from research centers, the Normandy delegation explored various partnership opportunities with the Moroccan side in key sectors. Discussions focused on renewable energies, energy efficiency, green hydrogen, as well as the development of skills in civilian nuclear energy and smart energy grid management.

The proposed cooperation also includes the training of engineers and applied scientific research, two fields in which Normandy has recognized expertise, thanks to close partnerships between universities and industry.

A Strategic Partnership for Energy Transition

During this meeting, Ms. Benali emphasized that Morocco’s energy strategy, guided by royal directives, places the energy transition at the heart of the country’s development. She highlighted the strategic agreement signed last October in the presence of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron, which lays the foundation for in-depth cooperation in clean technologies, innovation, and green hydrogen.

She stressed that this framework of cooperation serves as a solid foundation for the development of concrete projects with a strong economic and environmental impact while respecting the Kingdom’s climate commitments.

For his part, Hervé Morin praised Morocco’s excellence in energy transition, stating that the Kingdom is now a model to follow in Africa and the Mediterranean region. He reiterated Normandy’s willingness to strengthen scientific and industrial ties with Moroccan institutions.

With its advanced expertise in nuclear energy, green hydrogen, engineering training, and applied research, the Normandy region aims to establish partnerships that meet the shared challenges of energy sovereignty and sustainable development.
