On the occasion of the National Day of Meteorological and Climate Services, celebrated on May 5 in Rabat, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, emphasized the importance of adopting an integrated and participatory strategy for the development of effective and inclusive climate services.
Speaking at the closing of the event, held under the theme « Climate Services and Early Warnings: Towards Strengthening Resilience », Mr. Baraka stressed the need to actively involve end users from the design phase. He underlined that such an approach is essential to ensure the relevance, ownership, and effectiveness of these services, particularly in sensitive sectors such as water management, agriculture, health, infrastructure, and spatial planning.
The minister also highlighted the role of innovative technologies—such as artificial intelligence, satellite systems, and digital platforms—in enhancing the accuracy, speed, and accessibility of climate forecasts. He called for stronger collaboration among institutions to better integrate early warning systems and climate services into public policies.
Mr. Baraka further recalled the strategic importance of the State Climate Network, a key national infrastructure that ensures continuous observation, reliable data, and informed decision-making.
The event brought together political leaders, scientific experts, and socio-economic stakeholders, providing a platform to explore the contributions of digital transformation and emerging technologies in advancing meteorological and climate services.
Through this event, Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to a proactive and collaborative approach in managing climate risks, calling for greater mobilization at all levels to face the challenges of climate change.
