Challenges Related to the Alignment Between Education and Employment

Mr. Khalil NOSSAIR, Mr. Karim HAMDAOUI, Mr. Youness BENZAGHMOUT, Prof. Salah Eddine BAHJ, and Mr. Mohamed SLIMANI participated in a panel discussion on the challenges related to the alignment between education and employment in the digital and artificial intelligence sector in Morocco.

The Office of Vocational Training and Labor Promotion (OFPPT) plans to restructure its training offerings in these fields by 2024. New diploma programs, short-term and medium/long-term qualifications, will be established nationally, with a particular focus on the regions of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Casablanca-Settat, and Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima, which already concentrate the majority of the current offerings.

The new programs will adopt innovative pedagogies, including project-based learning, problem-solving, digital learning, and participatory methods. Common cores in digital development, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure will provide students with basic skills before specializing in fields such as web development, mobile application design, or data analytics.

Cybersecurity is among the priorities, with the planned launch of a diploma program deployed in several regions of the country starting in the academic year 2023. OFPPT is also preparing a qualifying training offer covering various professions such as security analyst, penetration tester, or operations specialist.

These new training programs are expected to better align education with the needs of the job market in the promising sectors of digital technology and artificial intelligence.
